Unless you live in a town where the water pipes are lead or joined with lead solder, there's no reason in the world not to drink your tap water. But if your town's water is like mine, it just doesn't taste good. At that point, bottled water makes all the sense in the world.

Tap water is perfectly safe, and in some instances is purer than bottled water. So why do people buy bottled water? It's chic, it looks cool...or maybe sometimes, like me, you are on the road and thirsty and don't want to drink soda. Also, some people are unreasonably afraid of tap water. The only reservation I would have about tap water would be if it was fluoridated. I'm skeptical about what fluorine might do to my body.
As for the filters, they help to remove unwanted flavors like chlorine. New York city has some of the purest tap water in the world, but it has a chlorinated taste which the filter removes.

The tap water in most cities is safe to drink, though some taste better than others. People buy filters to change the taste, or because they believe that the filters remove something medically harmful from their water.

not all tap water is equal. My tap water is probably cleaner than city tap water because I'm on a well. Though some people think it's better for you nutritionally or something. Besides, it's easier to carry a bottle of water than it is to carry a cup and look for a faucet whenever you want a drink. lol

Of course it's safe. When I Was growing up there was no bottled water
People buy bottled/filtered water because it doesn't have the impurities of tap water. But, of course tap water is safe, people who don't drink it dtill use it for cooking and stuff

Back "in the day" all water came from private wells. The water was filtered through the ground. No-a-days it comes from treatment plants & has all sorts of 'additives' to kill bacteria. (Germs). I still drink the water that comes from my tap, but I am seriously rethinking that after reading an article about recycling sewage water for drinking.
Here's the government's take on it.

It relies upon on the place you reside. there replaced right into a customary merchandising marketing campaign by utilising Fiji water, which replaced into rebutted by utilising the Cleveland Water branch which examined Fiji water and located it lots greater in arsenic than Cleveland city water. maximum bottled water is basically faucet water. the two best advertising manufacturers are faucet water with a low-fee clear out. maximum "spring water" is basically city water from a community with artesian wells.
