If the songs are in WAV, AIFF or Apple Lossless, then that's why they're taking up so much space. Transform them into MP3's and you'll suddenly have tons of space to spare.

Well, on average a MP3 is roughly 3.5MBs, at least all of the ones I have, which is roughly 5 gigs. More or less space depends on the quality and length of the song. Photos can take up lots of space. I know personally that one image can be up to 5MB, my husband camera saves pics around this size. Also depends of the format of the images.

Plug in your Ipod but don't access it through ITunes. Go to "My Computer" and click on your Ipod. Check the size of your files this way. Then you can determine what is using up you memory. Mine hold songs, pics, videos, movies (full) and still has almost half of the GB's left to fill with more. :)

Depends on the format of the songs. If they are .wav instead of .mp3, they are likely to take more space.
Plus, 1482 is a damn lot of songs. Add the pics, and it's very possible.

That's right. Your pictures take up a lot of space in addition to your songs
