In addition to the blanket, warm drinks, snacks and perhaps music, you might take a telescope to look at other things.
One think you may consider would be a camera and tripod. You can take long exposures of the night sky. You might catch a meteor, but even if you don't you'll get some nice star trails.

Blankets, jacket, maybe marshmallows for the roasting (unless you're worried about the smoke hanging over you if the air is dead).

A telescope would be useless for meteor showers since the buggars fly by so quick (I tried to watch a dragonfly in my yard with binoculars, got one glimpse of him, and that was a wider feild of view with a slower moving object). Binoculars might be nice to star gaze with in between (or the telescope if you really feel like setting up). You can examine the Pleides or Saturn when you get bored... of course you know how it is... the second you look away one goes by.

A telescope will be usless for the meteor shower, you need a wide angle of view so its better a pair or binoculars or just naked eyes. Maybe you can take a video camera and capture them with the night shot system if it has one.
Take blankets to lay on the grass, coffe, music...a girlfriend whatever you like.

Completely pointless using a telescope or binoculars as meteors only last for milliseconds - a few seconds (and that's a large one).Better just taking some warm clothes and lying back at a dark sky location (ie. away from street lights and porch lights in your backyard.).If you have a telescope or binoculars you should take a look at either the moon or the nearby planets.

A telescope will be useless, since they are scattered across a wide portion of the sky, and appear and disappear quickly.

Just take your eyes to a dark sky location and bring whatever will keep you warm and comfortable as you look up at the sky. A folding lawn chair might be nice to have, but not necessary.

When observing, keep bright lights from spoling your night vision. If you want to take a flashlight, put red cellophane over the light. White light destroys your night vision.
