The dryer is the biggest culprit. When I have anything I don't want to shrink I am sure to hang it to dry. Sometimes this leaves your clothes a little stiff and wrinkly, 'though, so when this is the case you can take the dry item and toss into the dryer on air fluff or even low heat for a few minutes, and then it will be as soft as if it had been dried, but without the shrinkage!

Buy only "sanforized" cotton clothes; they are pre-srunk, and treated to keep the shape and size, hence that type don't shrink.

Problem----- Causes-- ---Solutions-- -----Preventive Measures
Shrinking:-- Overdrying.-- Irreversible condition.-- Reduce drying time and remove clothes when there is a trace of moisture in them.

Remove knits, especially cotton, while they are still slightly damp. Stretch back into shape and lay flat to finish drying.
Residual shrinkage Irreversible condition. Many knits and woven fabrics can shrink when laundered. Allow for this when purchasing. Also, check the quality of the item.
Agitation of woolen items. Irreversible condition. Keep agitation in both wash and rinse cycles to a minimum. Use slow agitation or soak method for washing and rinsing. Regular spinning does not contribute to shrinkage and will speed up drying.

Wash only in cold water. Dry on the lowest heat setting possible or hang to dry. 100% cotton will ALWAYS shrink a little even if you do these things.

I always use cold water and gentle cycle. I dry with dryer sheet for about 10 min on low heat, then hang to dry...not outside in the heat, just room temperature. Your clothes won't be wrinkled, and they will be the same size you started with. Plus, they'll last longer 'cos the dryer wears them out.

Cold water and never put it in the dryer. Dry laying flat on a towell or a hanger.

Wash your garment in cold water and don't put in the dryer. The dryer will shrink it every time.

Shrinkage of cotton depend on 1) structure of weave i,e, how much sorts and picks are at there and 2) quantity of alkali i,e, soda ash or caustic soda or anionic detergent in your washing machine.
so you have nothing to do if construction i,e, low no of shots and picks, yield shrinkage but if you avoid anionic detergent or anionic chemical then it will yield low shrinkage and to do that use nonionic detergent and if it is in the form of cloth (fabric) the roll it tightly on wooden cloth and dry it in roll form.
I think it will solve your problem
