if gay dudes don't want to be called Phags, then why do they call eachother phags?

No that is a insult. Why call anyone out of their name?
I was told that back in the days that they would burn gays alive and that's why they call them phags.

I find the use of this word offensive regardless of who uses it. However, it seems to be an acceptable part of most minority cultures to use an otherwise offensive term towards another member of the same cultural group. Then it is considered to be 'in fun'. But, if someone from outside of that cultural group uses the same term, it is considered offensive and wrong.
One of the definitions of the word f-a-g-g-o-t means a bundle of sticks or firewood. The term was first used as slang in reference to homosexuals in the early 1900's and is believed to be derived from the 'christian' habit of burning homosexual people at the stake. Homosexuals were considered no better than firewood or f-a-g-g-o-t-s. Gay men were often made to gather the wood to be used in their own death by fire at the stake.

The same way Black peple can call eachother *****! OR Spanicsh people call eachother Spics! Or fat people call eachother Fat! They own the negative and positive aspects of these words. If Im fat the only person calling me fat beter b fat also. Let a skinny person call someone fat and its on!!!!!!!!!!

It's just the same as how black people can call each other *******. Its okay for someone of the same type, but not someone who is not gay, do you get it now?

between friends it is ok as long as some one is not offended
but to call some one walking down the street is just not cool

apply the same rule with the "n" word. Unless you're a member of that group, don't use the slur
