My period is about 4 days late (which for me is VERY unusual) but I have taken pregnancy tests at home and they are all negative. The only real pregnancy symptom I've had is passing nausea. I keep having cramps like my period wants to start then doesn't. Should I wait a few days, or call my dr?

Oh yeah- I got an IUD about a month ago and bled for a week, would that disrupt my menstrual cycle?

Yes and No. An ectopic pregnancy will show up on a pregnancy test just as much as a regular pregnancy. However pregnancy tests can be wrong. Its not common, but it is possible.

There are other ways pregnancy's can go wrong at the beginning (early miscarriage) besides ectopic.

I'm not a doctor, and I want to say to wait a few days and see what happens. Early miscarriages occasionally happen and it just seems like a really heavy period, however if you are worried it wouldn't hurt to call the Dr. You should listen to your own body. Do what you think is right. Only you know your body that well.

- Also - I just saw your additional info. This could very well account for the whole thing. I would let the doctor know what's going on. Its possible your IUD is not in right or has slipped or something! Even if your symptoms go away, your IUD still might not work correctly if there's something wrong with it.

Since your period is late, and you have an IUD, you need to call your doctor FIRST THING in the morning and tell them you need to be seen immediately. You should get a positive result on a home pg test even if the pregnancy is an ectopic, but your doctor is going to want to do a blood test, which is foolproof. If you start to experience severe abdominal pain before then, call 911 and get to the ER. This is a very serious medical condition, you don't want to mess around a few days with this. Best of luck to you.

You know, ectopic pregnancies put out HCG, but in lower amounts, which could account for a pregnancy test taking much longer to turn positive. Being that you have an IUD and are late, I would try to see the doctor tomorrow. I think you are fine, but ectopics can be deadly, so why take the chance. Good luck!

Yes......it's just like being pregnant but it's in the wrong place. I had one in Feb. and had 4 positive tests at home and doctors was + also. Why would you think it was an ectopic if you have no symptoms of it? I just had bleeding, but that's not normal so have the doc maybe do a few hcg levels on your blood if you're worried. Mine didn't rise the way they should've so they can usually tell with that!!m Good Luck!!!!

you can be pregnant but more then likely the new IUD is the cause. call your doctor tomorrow. the doc will explain that the IUD is seen as a pregnancy by your body. I still think you should call because this in new and you are anxious. never hurts to hear some reassuring words. better safe then sorry. You'll be fine.

I really dont think that you should wait my home pregnancy test was negative both times and I had a really painful cramping in my side now it doesnt have to be severe pain to be an eptopic when I went in to the doctor I was rushed into surgery because my fallopian tube was going to rupture. Be careful this could kill you if you wait too long.
