My SNES is really old and I do the classic technique of "cleaning" my cartridges by blowing into the bottom of them before I play them. It only works sometimes. What are other ways of cleaning them or getting them to work?

Don't blow on them your spit will damage the contacts on the cartrage. Use a cotton Q-tip and rubbing alcohol. keep cleaning with new Q-tips until they come out clean. If you keep cleaning your carts it will clean the system. If that dosn't work get some very fine sand paper and rub the contacts with that. Over time a little rust can form in there. Just be very carefull, don't rub to hard. If this dosn't work then your system is no good. Get a new pin or a new system.

Back in days of old when I was young, Nintendo sold a cleaning kit for the cartridges. It was tool with a coarse side and a fine side, and you put a couple drops of water on the sides and cleaned the connections in the cartridge. It looks like they sell similar kits on Ebay or other web sites.

lol...thats like the universal technique that like every person used; blowing under the cartridge...also try blowing in side the slot of the SNES also. or if that dont work use like a swiffer cloth or something..but if none of that works...just buy another one at a local video game store..they are like 5.99

well...I know that shaking won't do any good since mines graphics chip was damage because of roaches. the only thing I can think of is using a thick q-tip and try to sweep off any open area...like many before me suggested.
For some odd reason games still work if inserted half way down...

take a q-tip and some rubbing alchohol, it works pretty well, you can also get replacement pin connectors for the SNES or buy a new one for like 10 bucks at a pawn shop
