I am assuming she has chronic renal failure. I have end-stage renal disease, and my doctor's always measured my renal failure my bloodwork and output. They gave me a chart that has either four or five levels on it, and each level corresponded to a percentage of kidney function. Once you get to 15 to 20 % function, then the doctor's begin preparing you for either a transplant to pre-empt dialysis or you have to an access inserted for dialysis purposes.

Most people lose urinary functions as the kidneys progressively become worse, which I am assuming your grandmother is experiencing. I know some people who do not urinate at all, so they must watch their fluid intake closely. If her output is that poor, it means that the unfiltered fluid is going into her bloodstream instead of being expelled out of the body. I am not really familiar with the low blood pressure aspect, but I am sure you can find information about it, and when in doubt, talk to her doctors. Ask questions, is probably the best advice I can give!

Here are some websites you can check out for more information on acute and chronic renal failure: www.davita.com, www.aakp.org, www.kidney.org, www.rsnhope.com. These are only a few off of the top of my head. If you'd like you can e-mail me at e_l_brown2005@yahoo.com, and I can send you some more information about renal failure.

If these don't help you find more info so you can understand what's killing your grandmother, & how to support her, try typing in 'Renal Failure' or 'Renal Failure support groups' into the search window of your browser.
I'm sorry for your situation & I'll pray for strength for you & yours. In my opinion, at this stage, I would ask whatever God you believe in to let her pass without pain. Be there, and love, and support each other through this time of uncertainty. Give whatever comfort you can to your grandmother.
I can truly relate to your pain.

PS: Those who have died are in a better place. It is the living who are in pain.
