I went to a contractor's bid meeting. There were 5 white guys and two black guys there. We were all sitting around a table and the two black guys happened to be sitting next to each other. They both had completely different shirts on. The leader of the meeting started off by offering his business card to everyone, and when he got to the two black guys he asked them if they were together. Is it just me or was that racism?

LOL! WOW, is that considered faux pas? Why do people always assume ALL black people know each other? It's like when I talk to this one friend of mine who is black and I will mention something about another black man I read about in the paper or something. Then jokingly I'll ask my friend, "Do you know him?" I agree with Justin Rock though, not racism, just stupidity. It's still funny though. I only wish there were open season on stupid people.

Racism is when you hate people because of the color of their skin, not because you make a social "blunder." I'm sure he didn't mean it like you are taking it. They may have been from a company he wasn't familiar with, and he was just asking if they were a team, not a couple. He was probably trying to see how many bids he was about to get.
About the sitting by each other, I'm sure there weren't assigned seats, and that they just felt comfortable sitting by each other. No big deal I wouldn't try to make it one.

It could be but, I have a question for your question. Were the 2 black guys talking to each other? If that's the case then the leader just assumed they were together. It seems that black people seem to be friendlier to each other and talk more. So maybe the white people weren't talking to each other.

It would be nice if everyone talked more to each other (but I doubt that will ever happen).

It is not likily.

I have noticed similar things happen where people group people in this way and it is something that they do often without realising it. One may simply be assuming that they are together because they are sitting together and they look the same.

If it is was a racist attack; I would think that he would have deprived them of something, intended to make them feel worse off in one way or the other.
It is possible that this is racist; but it is a too much of a strange form of racism for me to be convinced of that.

Nah! It was just a question. See:
- wearing different shirts
- sitting next to each other (protection? perhaps)
I'd thought the same thing (I'm brown skinned)

Stupidity, not racism I would say. Some people do things that are dumb, but I would not call them racist, sexist, etc etc.
