Stay in South Lake Tahoe on the California side. Call Zepher Cove about boat tours. Be sure to drive along the east side of the lake at sunset. Avoid the casinos as they all look the same. There is a nice public beach in South Lake Tahoe and you can swim or rent a small boat there. The water is COLD so you've been warned. It is also crystal clear. Enjoy the out of doors. I will be there about a week later doing these same things.

Crystal Basin is a must see. Fanny Bridge is popular, but I don't care for it. Just over the hill, in Nevada, is a quaint little town called Genoa... very pretty and historic. Virginia City is nice, but a little far from the lake. The lake itsself is quite spectacular as are the Sierras. Driving around the lake is one of my favorites.

We love the Reno/Tahoe area. One of our favorite spots is the Ponderosa Ranch in Incline Village. If you are old enough to remember the show Bonanza(or have seen re-runs), it's where some of the filming was done...fun to see.
