A car door: so that when I became too hot, I could simply roll down the window.
A magic genie lamp: so that I could boil water with it to make it safe to drink.
Ok really though...
1) A Swiss Army knife: can cut wood to make shelter, can cut wood to make a sharp pointed spear for protection and/or as a hunting tool, and to make fire by rubbing the wood sticks together (yes this really can be done) for cooking and a source of heat.
2) A first aid kit: (including a snake bite kit) for treatment of wounds to prevent infection and the event of snake bites.
But these are my choices.
A boyscout knowledge of basic survival is very helpful. For example, a sewing needle rubbed in the same direction continuously against another piece of metal for a several minutes, can become magnetized enough to be a useful compass when laid on a very small tree leaf and placed lightly enough in a small cup sized pool of water. It must stay afloat. And it will turn pointing north and south. Then, watching for sunrise/sunset you can determine a more specific direction enough to find your way to help. Small things like this can be very useful in situations like the one you have described.
Have fun with your search and I hope this is helpful too.

You mean if I KNEW I was going to be stuck in the middle of nowhere? I'd have to take my dog, keep me company and lift my spirits, and a camera to occupy my time, and document the trip.

a picture of God and a knife. Pray to God all the time. Then I'll kill myself if I can't get out of there before either food or water runs out.

I don't live in nowhere, but on a clear day you can see it from my house. I guess that means I can take anything I want when I go.

Aspirin.
This question was once poised to doctors:
"If you were stranded on an island, what is the only medicine you would wish to have." (or, something along that line, anyway!)
They answered "aspirin".
oh,duh....TWO things!
A knife.
