I had that problem too but the reason they want you to wait 5 hours either its because you are on Yahoo Answers 1 am 2 am 3 am 4 am 5 am 6 am 7 am 8 am 9 am 10 am they want you to wait until tomorrow

I think it's meant to be 4 hours but I asked a question a little while back and as soon as one person had answered it I had the option to chose it as the best answer.

A lot of people (myself sometimes), answer questions that have been asked in specific categories as opposed to the questions that have just been asked. Sometimes these questions have been asked hours or even days ago. I like it when you can still answer questions even though it's a while since they were asked.

=========================

Just looked into it - seems the higher level you are the sooner you can vote for a best answer.

Not true. Yes, there are people here all the time, but some of us aren't able to get on here everyday. There are some questions that are a few days old before I can get to them. Plus if yours is a serious question you want as many answers to chose from as possible so that you can get an answer that works for you.

Used to be a 24 hour wait

well maybe you but I have gotten answers to my questions days later, and I have answered other peoples questions days later as well, and I don't know why you have to wait for 5 hours to choose a best answer, the rest of us have to wait 24 hours

Yahoo! would lke for you to wait so that more people have a chance to look at it. Not everyone is visiting Q&A at the same time.

While we're here right now, some people are working and some people are sleeping.

I go back hours later and answer. I think they do it to give everyone time to answer and the person that asked the question time enough to make a choice.

yeah, but not all questions are like that....people all over the world answer these questions and depending on the category and the controversy, etc. of the questions, it could take several hours to receive all the good answers that can come in....It's for the benefit of such questions.

It gives other people a chance to answer your question.

to give slow-pokes like me a chance to put their two-cents worth in.

(I had to actually take a question off once, because after two days there was only one dumb answer.)
