Mary gave her consent in faith at the Annunciation and maintained it without hesitation at the foot of the Cross. Ever since, her motherhood has extended to the brothers and sisters of her Son who still journey on earth surrounded by dangers and difficulties. Jesus, the only mediator, is the way of our prayer; Mary, his mother and ours, is wholly transparent to him: she "shows the way", and is herself "the Sign" of the way.

Mary is the perfect Orans (pray-er), a figure of the Church. When we pray to her, we are adhering with her to the plan of the Father, who sends his Son to save all men. Like the beloved disciple we welcome Jesus' mother into our homes, for she has become the mother of all the living. We can pray with and to her. Our prayer is sustained by the prayer of Mary and united with it in hope.

Because of Mary's singular cooperation with the action of the Holy Spirit, we love to pray in communion with the Blessed Virgin Mary, to magnify with her the great things the Lord has done for her, and to entrust supplications and praises to her.

"Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen."

I no longer pray to Mary. The only being you should be praying to is God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit. Mary is the Blessed Virgin, but she has no power to answer your prayers or forgive your sins. This is a fallacy taught by the Catholic church.

Somebody, Answer Mee Mee, and Bonita Wheda are telling you right… Jesus died for you, Mary was used here on earth but her work ended when she died… you are praying to the dead and the Bible tells us not to pray to the dead to pray to the living Jesus Christ.

For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Ecclesiastes - Chapter 9 verse 5

this tells us that the dead don't know anything, so if you are praying to the dead, your prayers are not being listened to.

In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead?

Are you serious? And you wonder why people think you are idolaters.....For the sake of God, Pray to God, not Jesus, the Holy spirit, Mary or the saints.....they can't hear you, and they will never answer your prayers. Only God will.

Peace

Mary was used of God as God uses many people in many different areas in life. however, NO PLACE IN GOD'S WORD DOES IT TELL US TO PRAY TO MARY. There are however many verses that tell us to go to jesus, to pray to the Father, to ask his Holy Spirit to help and guide us, but again, NO PLACE DOES IT TELL US TO PRAY TO HIS EARTHLY MOTHER. you may as well ask your own dead relatives for help because you will get the same response you do from Mary. Mary's job on earth ended when she died. if you want results with your prayers, GO TO THE SOURCE, GO TO THE FATHER.

The disiples asked jesus teach us to pray... he said pray like this... And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. (Luke Chapter 1.)

Jesus never incouraged anyone to pray to his earthly mother, as others above have already noted.

if you want to pray correctly, pray to the Father.

what somebody said is right... read it in your bible. God never told us to pray to mary, Jesus died for our sins that we could come to him. Mary is dead, her work on earth is done... if you want your prayers answered pray to Jesus and not to his dead mother... that's praying to an idol which is also breaking one of the commandments that says:

Exodus 20:4
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth

note* above verse says or that is in the earth beneath... that means don't pray to the dead.

Leviticus 26:1
Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.

note verse above God tells us "I am the LORD your GOD" not Mary.
