My church always has a free Thanksgiving dinner. They also have a food drive and donate food to prepare a Thanksgiving meal to families who cannot afford to. You can always start having people donate food and clothing all year round to help those families in need. So instead of donating all those old clothes to the Salvation Army, tell people to donate them to church. Maybe you could prepare meals every Sunday for those members who can't afford to eat after services. Maybe have a special meal you prepare church wide, once a month, for the homeless or something. Next Sunday, ask people to put their brains together and think of ways they can reach out to people.....then the following Sunday......have them write down a few ideas and put them in a collection plate. There are all sorts of fundraisers you could do and organizations you could reach out to. Maybe even form a committee to have people pick each other's brains to come up with ideas. Two heads are better than one, so just find some people who are willing to help you come up with ideas and then watch the power of the brain.....and you will be amazed at the ideas people will come up with! Good luck, hope that helps.

Several years ago I worked for a charity, one of the most satisfying ways we helped people was by providing late night hot meals. We gathered left over but still good foods from restaurants and bakeries, made a huge pot of soup, and with a sack of bread went into the center of the city and set up a stall by an underpass that we knew housed a lot of homeless people. Sometimes even people in cars would stop by, they said our soup was really good and enjoyed the atmosphere of so many people enjoying themselves and always made financial contributions, unasked, which helped a lot. Try it, it really makes you feel good, making other people feel good!!

I work with people with disabilities. I managae programs that help folks find, get, and keep a job. Often, my folks need a community-a little support, help, and networking. Transportation to and from work is a huge issue here. STYLISH interview clothing is always needed, it seems. A friend is simply the biggest need for about 50% of the people who are entering a career with a disability.

Form a club for young people who have relationship problems so that they don't need to go on the Net to get advice from strangers like me who knows nuts about life over in your country. Then again if you ship books and comics to me i'll be your friend for life. Books and comics are VERY expensive where i come from.

Do something good for inner city youth -- maybe like establishing a big brother / sister org, or support programs that are an alternative to violence..

offer anykind of help they need. Family help, work stress related help. You know that kind of stuff. Maybe there are some teenage mothers who need a babysitting resource.
