Not really. It may be recognized as a degree, but not as a career. Some degrees similar to home ec are:
- home ec teacher
- interior decorator
- chef
- wedding planner
- child care
- nurse

To try an answer your question. I just finished a course in Consumer Education where it use to be called Home Economics. This field of study is quite well known. Some of the other majors in this area is: Nutritionist, and Dietictian only to name a few, and at my school Master's Degrees are offered, if that is not a world wide career then what could be?

No, not by itself really. Unless you're Martha Stewart. There are related careers, like home decorator, or personal chef, but there's no such title as "Home Economist."
