i was on vacation last week and when i got back to the east coast, i saw flags flying half mast. i saw some news, but not that. was wondering if it was a local politician or retired.

The flags were at half staff on the west coast as well, but I couldn't find out why either, so it may be in conjunction with VA.

I hope we get an answer.

Depends, if you live in VA then this is why:


"This is to order that the flags of the United States of America and the Commonwealth of Virginia be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and throughout Virginia in respect and memory of James R. Olin, former member of the United States House of Representatives. I hereby order, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution of Virginia, that the flags shall be lowered at sunrise on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 and remain at half-staff until sunset on Sunday, August 13, 2006."
