wants windows to be opaque...not trashy looking

There is a product available that is just for that purpose. It comes in a spray can, goes on clear and drys opaque. The more coats applied, the 'cloudier' it looks. (sorry, don't know what it's called but I have seen this in Lowes and Home Depot)
If you really feel like doing it right you can sand blast the panes. A sandblaster costs about $20.00 but you will need an air compressor to drive it. One last suggestion -- there is a product sold in art supply stores that are designed to be painted on glass and will leave a 'crystalized' look when dry. This is used on faux leaded windows.

sounds like a nightmare. there are opaque adhesives out there... but i would get some advice from local hardware and/or home improvement stores. the only time we painted our windows was last year during the world series, and we painted "go sox!!" all over our house windows- we were involved in a large painting process- and the next week we had all our windows replaced (planned, of course) best of luck to you!!

Don't paint the over, yeah, so trashy, instead get really dark tint sheets, or a self tinting kit used for car windows. Much better, and possible other idea is the tinted mirrors sheets, but that is annoying. Best of all you install these on the inside, so no one can mess with them. Scrape off that ugly paint!

Use a good quality spray paint that doesn't run. My tenants do this all of time to their basement windows to keep prying eyes out. Remove old paint by taking out windows and running under hot water. Scrape off paint with razor blade. This works so-so on Plexiglas or Lexan.

Sounds like you need to spray paint the windows if your painting the glass.

Not trashy?

How about curtains or shades. You can get relatively cheap vinly shades at Lowes....

No matter how you cut it....painted windows look trashy.

If you are just looking for privacy they make bubbled or frosted sheets that go on your windows so people can't peep at your stuff. Check Harriet Carter or type in window privacy sheets in search engine.
