Since people are using the bible to answer this, tell me what does the bible say about the divorce rate? Men beating there wives? Extra marital sex?

So juding from some of the answers, people either think it should not be legalized because it goes against the bible and because people think it's icky? Not really a good reason to ban gay marriage.

yeah. if a man loves a man or a woman loves a woman they love eachother and they should be allowed to marry.
its stupid that it would have to be "legalized". that makes it sound like its a crime. marriage should not be a crime. legalizing it is just rediculous a person should marry who they want to marry.
**** these religious fags who think that everything has to be their way. (no offense to fags)

Of course. It will be eventually - the only question is when. Future generations will look back and say, "Can you believe that at one time in this country, we didn't allow people in love to marry, simply because they were the same sex?"
I also believe that there should be two different kinds of marriage - legal and religious. A legal ceremony would allow a couple all the rights of a "married couple" - health insurance, inheritance, taxes, etc. A religious ceremony would allow a religious couple to live together morally in the eyes of God without any of the legal downfalls. For example, my grandmother could have married her boyfriend in a religious ceremony without losing any of the economic benefits of being a widow.

I can't make heads or tails out of that message board.
I say that I would like for gay marriage to be legal.
IF and ONLY IF the voters and/or their elected politicians have legalized it.
The judges in Massachusetts were liars. It is utterly ridiculous to interpret either the U.S. Constitution or any state constitution as being a guarantee for gay couples to get married. The courts must not legalize. The legislature or the voters should.
P.S.
I am gay.

it should not be legalized for the fact that churches would lose freedom...and freedom of religion is guaranteed in the constitution...
meaning...if a gay couple wants to get married in a church but a church refused to marry them because this church does not condone such behavior...the gay couple then could in turn sue the church...the Bible would be considered a book of hate because it preaches against homosexuality...free speech for religious people would be lost...i say give gay people same sex unions with the same rights as married people...don't change the definitions of words because society deems it necessary...

I've been in a same sex marriage for almost 13 years. In fact, tonight I hope to have the same sex with my wife. Of course, gays and lesbians should be allowed to get married. And let's face it, in time they will be given all the legal rights the rest of us have. Think about if your child was gay, wouldn't you want them treated like everyone else?

Gay people should be allowed to get married, just not divorce. Divorce is a special thing that god intended only for a man and a woman.

No, No, No, NO!
Gay people shouldn't get married. Just like Gay people SHOULDN'T adopt kids. Have you ever thought about these poor kids who have 2 father or 2 mother? They'll have a weird life, and be made fun of all their life.

The Bible says marriage is between one man and one women! I have to go by that because I am a Christan! It says that being gay is a sin and GOD hates that! Just like fornication or adultery! ALL I can tell you is to do what the BIBLE says !

Yes. They are entitled to the same rights as any other American. Even if a government refuses to acknowledge their basic human rights that won't mean there will be less gay people.

I really don't believe in marriages... I just wish marriages are not invented at all... besides, i heared weddings (and so does marriage) just evolved from paganist practices... so what's the big deal... it's enough that two people are in love.... so to answer your question, i don't think legalization of marriage is any important... Acceptance is.
