because we all need a little break from reality every once in a while. we all want to pretend, if only for 90 minutes, that we are actually someone a lot cooler, like a super-spy, a pirate, or a hopeless romantic. it's a sort of indulgence for the imagination. besides, what would we talk about [other than the weather] if we didn't have movies?

What movie? If you mean movies in general, it's because they are entertaining and an escape from reality. Some movies are comedies and make people laugh and forget about their own problems or dull lives. Some movies make people happy and they can imagine themselves being a character in the story.
