This is my very best 40 yr old secret. Bucket of hot water (as hot as you can stand it) add a good 'slosh' of brown vinegar. Using a sponge cloth, wet with vinegar and water mix, wipe over windows, and using some 'elbow grease' with some scrunched up newspaper, wipe over window until dry. You will never end up with streaky windows. No chemicals to breathe in, and because you have used brown vinegar you will notice you shall have less flies.

Wow, vinegar is best for windows. Then after wipe with newspaper (seriously the print does not come off) or wipe with paper towels.

I use white vinegar to clean my glass, and old worn-out t-shirts to wipe with. I just spray it on.

Now, if I were cleaning a place that had been occupied by a smoker, I would indeed use very hot soapy water first to remove the tar.

water in a spray bottle and a cloth works well it may not look good when you start but it drys really nice and it doesn't have all the chemical's that Windex or other window cleaners have

Try Vinegar and/or Lemon in water, or straight. Or, take a trip to Vegas, and get Razzle Dazzle from one of the many salesmen bothering customers as they shop. Or www.rdazzle.com.

Wipe it off with newspaper.

Use windshield washer fluid - it's cheap & very effective.
Use a squeegee if you have one. Otherwise paper towels.
Soap smears - don't use that.
I tried the newspaper gimmick - didn't work for me.

Newspaper is the best... Something to do with it being pulp paper... Rinse them well first to loosen the surface dirt (reduces scratches)...
