I recently bought a house with overgrown Pampas Grass. It is so thick with previous years' growth that it is extremely difficult to cut. I have tried a machete and even a chainsaw with no luck. I would burn it, but it is right next to a electrical utility transformer. Anybody ever try anything else with success?

Yes, Pampas grass is invasive, but easy to care for. I am from Florida, where it grows rampant.

In the fall, get a good pair of shears and cut it to within a foot from the ground (you might want to wear gloves, since it ain't called Sawgrass for no reason). To really get the root ball Iwhich is a rhizome) to retract, in the late fall or early spring, spread a cirlce (a thin circle) of salt around the base.

If it is really over grown the best tool would be hedge clippers. The old fashion ones that look like big scissors, and its probably going to take a while to do so pace yourself do a little bit every day.
If you get really frustrated then try a Dodge Ram, just wrap a chain around the bottom of the grass and gun it.

Pampas grass is one of the most invasive plants- It will even tolerate fire! I recommend a total vegetation killer and cut off the seed heads of all plants.
