Oh fun question...I was in high school then. Here are some faves:
Michael Jackson - Thriller album is an essential
Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA as well
Madonna - Like a Virgin as well
Bruce Hornsby and The Range - The Way it Is
Phil Collins - No Jacket Required
Prince - Purple Rain
Many many others don't come to mind but will later I am sure.
One personal fave of mine hard to find on record is Murray Head's single "One Night in Bangkok." I remember Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Sting, Tears for Fears, Bon Jovi, Cindy Lauper and Lionel Richie all doing some interesting stuff as well....enjoy!

Bon Jovi, U2, Springsteen, Mellencamp, Bryan Adams...
Favourite songs? Bon Jovi all the way. I can't remember the 80s but I love the music!
Bon Jovi sure had cheesy videos though!
You can't go wrong with my picks - the best thing is - they all still make new music so you can't get bored. The Bon Jovi of the 80s is a far cry from today's Bon Jovi though!

Souixie and the Banshees
The Cure
Depeche Mode
English Beat
Go-go's
Adam and the Ants
The Fixx -one thing leads to another and Red skies at night
Old U2- I love the song 'Gloria' by them
Anything by the B-52's
it's kind of hit and miss as far as the songs go, but they are all worth a listen or two or three...

Man, there are so many! :) I personally love Tears for Fear, but perhaps a better suggestion would be for you to get hold of a compilation album of the best hits or hits from the 80s.
