Do colleges like it better if a student does volleyball instead of bowling, just because volleyball is more physically active?

I'm not on any board for anything like this but from what i do know most colleges don't really care what the activity is as long as they see dedication and a commitment to it. That's really all they look for in extracurriculars, so they can get a better idea of who you are.
The only reason they would factor that in is if they are wanting you to play that sport in college then it would probably go to a volleyball player first because it is generally considered a more serious sport

I think that colleges like things like volleyball over bowling because they are larger, more competitive sports-generating more competition, and NOT incidentally, more revenue and prestige. sad but true, imho.
