You need to double-check with the manufacturer of the laptop if it can indeed take up to 1 GB of RAM. This is also often cited in the manual if you have one around. As for purchasing RAM, you could either walk into any PC store and ask for laptop RAM or alternatively purchase it online e.g. www.kelkoo.co.uk

search the internet for RAM for your specific model of laptop, then find the best price. You will also need to know how many slots your laptop has for RAM. It could be 1, 2, or 4. If you have more than one, you should use the same size RAM cards in both slots.

Easiest thing to do, to start off with, is to visit the home page of "crucial.com". On that page they have a search mechanism set up to find the exact RAM type that you need for your particular computer. The link is below. Good luck.

First, you want to make sure that your computer can accept more RAM; it has to have more slots inside.
Go to the store and ask a pro about the compatibility of available RAMs that can fit your computer.

what is the laptop, make, model etc. I can tell tou precisely what you need and the maximum permitted in the chassis. Incidently, your friend maybe correct, however ALL laptops are different, you may only be able to go to 768mb (like mine) or upto 2gb, it depends what memory you can add, change and type available for install

Try online sites like pcworld.co.uk, eBay, Kelkoo, also a magazine website www.pcadvisor.co.uk(which can list more sites for you). They could stock external hard-drives which probably what you are looking for as these peripherals are RAM.
Be sure to keep a note of your machine's serial and model numbers.
