automatic bought rebuild kit for e40d it didnt fit. my pan has14 bolts the kit was 20 bolts

You can tell by the VIN number. Find the VIN number and look up on http://www.f150online.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131311
According to most Ford enthusiasts, the 20 bolt pan should be the E40D

Since you say you have 14 bolts, you have an AOD or AODE.
If it's an AODE, you should have a push button at the end of your shifter. I beleive you will have the AODE version in your truck.
