I am trying to start a home based business online - where is the best place to be advertising online?

I have signed up to create several sites to market my business and attract people to want to find out more - now I need to get those sites out on the internet to start getting "hits", and I am not sure where to start. I can't afford thousands of dollars to drive traffic to the site. A few free resources – check out the sources box for links:

1) Create a blog pertaining to your field

2) Use Yahoo! Local & Yahoo! Groups – Be sure to read the TOS for each one!

3) Write articles pertaining to your field and/or expertise.

4) Advertise on Craiglist

Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs enable you to advertise on other's sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are paid a commission.

Have you thought about using Google adwords? If done correctly, you can generate massive highly targetd hits to your site at very little expense.

If you're not sure how to use adwords or or unfamiliar with it, I've included a link to an ebook in the source box which will help you get started and understand the system. It is one of the best I've seen about adwords and is very informative.

You dont say what kind of business it is or whereabouts you live - is it a by mail service or do people come to you after going to your site... - too many variables - without that knowledge its hard to say where to advertise
