Oscars are notorious for this type of behavior. They will jump out of the tank, destroy the heaters, and generally make a mess of the tank. All you can do is make sure that you have a good quality lid that is SECURELY fastened. Good luck, and hope you do not have to witness any more accidental suicides.

It was Suicide. I had 2 the size of dinner plates in a tank. Had a glass lid with light on top. They were so big that they knocked the lid open and ended up on the floor, and the lid closed shut again. The next morning we found them. It was a Mass Suicide!!!!

How is it murder? Haha. I had a koi jumped out of the tank because the aeration was a bit too strong. I think it is suicide but put a lid on the tank.

Oscars are known to jump. You should keep well secured lids on the tank.

I have had that happen to me also ..twice first time i was able to save him second time ..he had been out of the water for too long and i had mine 2 of them in a bath tub outside.
