Right now, I wouldn't put seed down. Wait alittle bit and put some winter rye down. That will get you some green, winter grass. Try a local, reputable nursery for help this time of year. No home depot, loews, etc. Good landscapers only.
Try seed in April-May. Bermuda, 419 or Tif is good stuff, but the common bermuda sold in most nurserys will do. Just make sure it contains pure seed. No weeds. No trass. Watch for spider grass too. It resembles bermuda, but it sucks.
I'd also suggest sod if you doing a bigger area. Its going to take faster and better. With seed, you'll need to make sure your bed prep is good. You'll need a roller and make sure you have no large rocks or clumps of dirt.
You can also do St. Augustine if you like.

Blue fescue and Winter Rye are your best bet. Re-seed next year in early spring with zoysia or St. Augustine, if it will grow in your zone.

Well fescue should but ya have to keep it watered when its relly dry and havent had any rain.if you dont water it itll gor into a dormant state like in winter.
