you only have to lie to two sets of people
1) the women you're having sex with
2) the women you want to have sex with
truth for the rest of us

It depends on the circumstances. If the truth is so awful that it could hurt a child, not telling the whole truth is perfectly acceptable. If it isn't a yes or no question, you can tell a partial truth if you know the whole truth will hurt someone immensely.
