He doesn't have a lot of self worth and doesn't mind what he's doing to his body. He is such a wonderful person. He’s very nice, sweet, loving, and calm. He's really smart and talented too. Everyone has his or her flaws and smoking seems to be the number one for him. He cares almost nothing about himself and everything about his family, friends, and girlfriend. He is 17 and pretty much like an older brother to me. I asked him to stop, and when that didn't work I did the only thing I could think of. I told him not to talk to me until he quit smoking. He was sad, he was upset and he was apologetic but he would have never talked to me again if I hadn't given in. He's so important to me I just want him to be healthy. I'm sick of watching him die and he knows how much I hate it... I need an idea, something to tell him to get him to quit. Any help is welcome.

You CAN do things to help him quit. Visit the anti-smoking websites to learn dialogues you can have with smokers. Inform him of the new methods for quiting. Encourage him all you can. It is important.

It's not that risky due to the fact that a cigarette only takes minutes away from your life but you must consider the fact that even the lightest smokers can get lung cancer and other smoking related diseases. Think it through, do you need to smoke? Cigarettes cost money, something you'll need later on. You don't have to impress your friends with something stupid, there are plenty of ways to make friends and look cool that won't ruin your life.

If he is not interested in quitting you could never stop him. Probably you can give him books about effects of smoking. YOu can bring him to a doctor. hehehehehehe.

Your friend has to want to quit himself, noone but him making up his mind to do it can make him stop that.
