Some places give you general anesthesia but that's always risky. I was given a sedative. There aren't many nerve endings down there, though you will feel a twinge when they go around the corner. No big thing though. Mostly you can't feel anything so I don't understand why anesthesia is even necessary.
The worst part, frankly, is the prep the night before. You have to fast and drink a liquid that cleans out your colon. Prepare to spend much of the evening on the can. It's nothing painful, just inconvenient, but the Hershey highway must be clean for the morning adventure!
Relax. My first one caught my colon cancer just in time. That was 7 years ago and I'm fine, thank you. So grin and bear it!

You should not be afraid. The worst part of the test by far is the not eating anything for a while before the test and sometimes a solution is given to you to drink to clean out your colon for viewing. Anxiety of this test is common due to the embarrassing nature of the test, but the good news is that it doesn't take long and other than some mild discomfort, doesn't generally hurt. If you have ever had a supposatory, that is the closest sensation to the scope. There is a lot of lubracant used for ease of insertion so a little clean up afterwords is necessary but not at all as bad as it sounds. A good gastroenterologist will make you feel comfortable

A colonoscopy should be painless. The outpatient area i work in gives patients intravenous sedation and patients really dont recall the procedure.Like most have said the worst part is the prep the day before to cleanse out the bowel and not being able to eat anything other than liquids.Best

whilst he's domicile, he may well be distinctly lots whacked out. reckoning on the surgical treatment the dr would order domicile well-being care, nurses who come around periodically to ascertain on him. The down fringe of that's, he won't leave the domicile aside from scientific desires, alongside with dr visits, lab or xray, in hassle-free terms. He would decide on oxygen. some doctors will give a relaxant, so you don't feel too much - they do pump air into the colon area and that can be quite uncomfortable, otherwise there is not much to it - the hard part is the day before - all that preparation, I was able to see my test and found it quite interesting.

well the test itself should be painless as they give you really strong drugs. You do however have to drink a vile liquid that tastes like a bucket of salt and you will be on toilet for hours you have to drink it 2 times..It really cleans you out but its gross...you should not be scared but just bring a big book to the bathroom and whatever you do dont go out or eat anything

They put me under and then I woke up and it was all over. If you have the same experience I did, you will be just very hungry and looking for a place to eat. I was not sore at all.

I don't know about your hospital, but my hospital would give a general anesthetic to put you to sleep. Therefore you'd feel nothing.
