Dreams have always had many meaning to Native Americans and one of the old traditions was to hang a dream catcher in their homes. They believe that the night air is filled with dreams both good and bad. The dream catcher, when hung, moves freely in the air and catches the dreams as they float by.
The good dreams know the way and slip through the center hole and slide down off the soft feather so gently the sleeper below sometimes hardly knows he is dreaming.
The bad dreams, not knowing the way, get entangled in the webbing and perish with the first light of the new day.
It was traditional to put a feather in the center of the dream catcher; it means breath, or air. It is essential for life. A baby watching the air playing with the feather on her cradleboard was entertained while also being given a lesson on the importance of good air. This lesson comes forward in the way that the feather of the owl is kept for wisdom (a woman's feather) and the eagle feather is kept for courage (a man's feather). This is not to say that the use of each is restricted by gender, but that to use the feather each is aware of the gender properties she/he is invoking. Indian people, in general, are very specific about gender roles and identity. The woven dream catchers of adults do not use feathers.

Dreaming is a place of possibility and creation, a land of futures that might come and pasts that never were. It is also a land of nightmares.
It constantly changes as people fall asleep and shape parts of it, then wake up and their dreams dissolve back into mist. A dreams dictionary always helps ( for other descriptions needed ). http://myjellybean.com/dream/pagey.html

native American in origin, dream catchers are typically made from a circle of thin twig wrapped in coloured threads with net woven in the centre .Their purpose is to catch positive dreams, while letting the negative dreams pass through.Dream webs are made in a slightly different way and their purpose is different as well:they can induce a state of dreaming wherein inner guidence is discovered.I hope l was of some help.

It's a Native American tradition.
If you hang it over your bed....the bad dreams or Evil dreams will get cought in the webbing (like a spider's web).
The good dreams will flow through freely & allow you to have a good sleep.
Chek out some native american sites. You can get more info like that.

If I remember right, you are suppose to hang it up near a window or doorway. It was woven so that only the good spirits would enter and keep away the evil spirits from entering in your home. And everytime you look into it, the good enters your heart. So look often!
