My wife is desperately trying to find a teaching job in the Houston area so if anyone knows anyone that may be able to get her a job, the help would be greatly appreciated. Where is this demand for teaching jobs at?

She applied for over 50 positions in HISD and hasn't even received a call. She graduated from UT with a 3.49 GPA so I don't know what is going on. I guess you have to know someone.

To answer your question. It sounds like your wife applied on-line at the school's website. I can't say anything about that process, if indeed she used that method during the summer. I work for the District. I am not a teacher, but currently working towards that goal.

My advice is: I noticed during the summer, the District had several job fairs for prospective non -teaching, and TEACHING positions, all was needed to do was to bring in the necessary credentials. This is how I got hired.

The next best thing to do is to go each school and talk with the principle about positions. The school's website probably is the only source of knowing where the jobs are at this time, since school is starting on Aug. 14th. I hope this helps.

Reality dictates that the teaching jobs are where she is really not safe to be, most in inner city of Houston with all the gang and minority conflicts. Tell her to stay away from Houston ISD. They interview, hire, then and only then place teachers at the "bad" campuses. Teachers with seniority get the "better" schools.

Best suggestion I have for her is to:
1. Make sure she is Texas Certified. If she's not, she will not be hired where she'd like to be, no matter what her background.

2. Pick a nice school then get of the sub-teacher list. That way she will have a foot in the door. All schools are hurting for subs.

Houston is in such a need for teachers, she shouldn't have trouble at all. I know that at the school I teach at we have 13 new teachers. Tell her to keep looking and if she doesn't find one right away sub in a bunch of schools to get her foot in the door.
