Blame the true posers for that one. They think you are because there are so many skating posers going around that it's not even funny! Therefore, they think you are trying to "pretend" to be a skater like some of these people. But explaining yourself to them will be a waste of time because it really won't change their mind, just do you, as long as you TRULY like it, that's what matters.
For ex: Pitbulls are known to be dangerous dogs, but what if a homeless pitbull just wants to play with someone and then that person kicks it. The pitbull didn't do any harm, but because other pitbulls are dangerous dogs, their gonna label him dangerous.
hehe ^_^ don't worry about it though.

I can definitely give you a good answer on this one.
I AM a skateboarder so of course I wear them. I don't see a problem with others wearing them even if they don't skateboard because they're comfortable as hell.
However, nowadays with the emo and punk music scene raging, teens are finding more and more ways to stereotype. The only thing is, there are plenty who will wear them just because they think its the "cool thing" to do and then they will *pose* and say they skateboard when they really don't. That's how the whole 'poser' labeling came about. [I believe the hugest brand that's hit is Etnies.]
And since then, people can get pretty ignorant about it. I know there's skateboarders and preps who will call others 'posers' for wearing skateboard shoes and that's just because its become such a huge fad, if you will.
Personally, don't fret it. Keep on rocking the style and one day the stereotyping of it will die down.
