The difference between CNA and LPN. CNA stands for Certified Nursing Assistant. LPN stands for Licensed Practical Nurse. Their titles alone give reference to there level in the health care field and their requirements. A CNA goes to school usually at an accredited junior college or health care organization that has a state authorized licensing program. A CNA is the first rung in the ladder of the health care team. There duties include the welfare and care of the patient in a very limited capacity. They are usually allowed to take vitals and tend to the needs of daily living for either long term or short term care . A LPN is a licensed professional whom may have a broader responsibility to the patient in the health care team. This certification is usually the first degree level professional in the health care team. where a CNA usually only takes a state exam. A LPN must have more in depth certification and education. More information on both professions can be found at your local Community College.

A CNA is a Certified Nurses' Assistant. They do things like give bed bathes, change sheets, take temperatures and blood pressures. They are not allowed to administer medication. The training to become a CNA is about 6 months.

A LPN is a Licensed Practical Nurse. They can give some medications, but nothing in an IV. They do all of the same things that a CNA does and more, like record information about patients in a hospital chart, which a CNA does not. It takes about two years to be a LPN, depending on the degree one's going for of course.

A LPN does make more money than a CNA, roughly about $10 more an hour.
