Well, I wouldn't believe anyone who tells you that the Democratic party is the ideal, faultless party. It is a political machine, and it needs money, loyalties and votes like any other. The difference is in philosophy.

The Democratic party is not in lockstep. I can't give you a list of unanimous goals. But if you favor international alliances and diplomacy over preemptive war, Democrats are your party. If you favor progressive taxation and are tired of massive tax cuts for the top few percent of Americans, vote Democrat. If you think abortion should stay legal in America, vote Democrat. If you think science is important, and we should follow facts and research instead of religious ideology, vote Democrat.
Some Democrats might vote this way, as might some moderate Republicans, but these are splits that go more or less along party lines. (Some may argue that Democrats voted to support Bush's war and that is true. But do you think Al Gore would have invaded Iraq?)

I am not a Democrat, and the Democrats are a frustrating party at best. It is a centrist party whose liberal origins are difficult to discern at times. But it is important to act pragmatically. The Republican party acts in lockstep to achieve its often diametrically opposed agenda. I will not go into a criticism of the Republicans here, but there are fundamental differences in medical care, educational policy, immigration, foreign policy, on and on.

Look inside yourself and see what you believe. There are equally passionate Republicans who could give you a speech to mirror mine. What's really important is the political philosophy that matters to you, the two parties are simply reflections, however distorted. I am not a Democrat, I am a liberal.

When voting for a local official, one might be tempted to pick a competent and attractive candidate of the other party. But at the national level, it is a battle of ideas. Whose ideas do you support?

somewhat, human beings did not vote for Bush...Florida, valid electorate...Democrats have been expunged from the balloting sign in. The Mary Berry hearings instructed that tale....then there replaced into the Diebold balloting machines that have been progammed for Bush. Diebold had a memo on the information superhighway interior the '90s announcing they could make confident Bush gained. As to the 2004 election....Ohio replaced into not a valid election...and that i think of another states had those balloting machines that have been programmed for Bush. We have been a third international united states till now Bush took place of work. And from October 2001 to January 19, 2009, Bush replaced right into a dictator over this united states...the very factor our squaddies have fought against for hundreds of years. Bush, Cheney and Rove have a lot to answer for...they ruined this united states...the financial gadget and despatched our little ones to die in a bogus conflict.

This from wiki, but it sums up the democratic platform. I hope this helps.

Liberalism is an ideology, philosophy, and political tradition that holds liberty as the primary political value.[1] Broadly speaking, liberalism seeks a society characterized by freedom of thought for individuals, limitations on power, especially of government and religion, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market economy that supports relatively free private enterprise, and a transparent system of government in which the rights of minorities are guaranteed. In modern society, liberals favour a liberal democracy with open and fair elections, where all citizens have equal rights by law and an equal opportunity to succeed[2]. Liberalism rejected many foundational assumptions which dominated most earlier theories of government, such as the Divine Right of Kings, hereditary status, and established religion. Fundamental human rights that all liberals support include the right to life, liberty, and property. In many countries, "modern" liberalism differs from classical liberalism by asserting that government provision of some minimal level of material well-being takes priority over freedom from taxation. Liberalism has its roots in the Western Enlightenment, but the term now encompasses a diversity of political thought, with adherents spanning a large part of the political spectrum, from left to right. In the context of economics, the term "liberalism" refers to economic liberalism, which is associated with the political ideology of liberalism itself.

Why? You obviously (see previous questions) have made up your mind on the issue already.

I am pretending you are a naive young teenager and you are writing these questions because you have nothing to do on a Sunday night but try to stir up sh!t. Poor thing. Ever thought of reading a book? Maybe cleaning up your room? That way you would be able to find your floor and get off your high horse. . .

Have a nice day. . .:)

Convince us why we want you in our party.

We don't want close-minded bigots that play follow the leader and can't accept truth. You have to have a level of insight and intellect to be a democrat; but mostly, you must have sense of humanity.

If you lack any of those qualities, then good to know ya.. wouldnt wanna be ya.

Let me apologize for all the ignorant responses to you inquiry. It does no good for anyone from either side to criticize someone that is simply seeking information. As I have been taught throughout my entire life, "the only stupid question is one that isn't asked?"

Now, let's break this down for you (in the way that I explained to a friend in a recent entry on my xanga):

(Start from the begiining of my entry)

Misunderstandings....

First off, let me address a few things that Steven said on his most recent Comments:

"So wait, there are no honest Republicans? Even I find that to be a harsh statement... to say that all of them have been deceived is kind of, well, ignorant. Just because their opinions differ from mine, and yours, doesn't make every thing they believe in wrong. "

I never said that all Repugs were dishonest. There are a couple dozen in Congress that can do good. Actually there are quite a few that have voted against BOOsh on a number of occassions. However, most of the time, the vast majority of these men and women that proudly hold the title of "Republican" are afraid to go against their party's leadership when the time is right. Where were these cowards at when it came time to do their constitutional duties and keep the power of declaring war where it belongs...in Congress? Many Democrats also gave up this duty and I am equally pissed off at them. I didn't say that everything Repugs stand for is wrong...but let's look at what is wrong:

a) Right to Choose/Abortion: It's understandable to oppose the destruction of a fetus. Nobody honestly likes Abortions, but it is necessary to let women have this right especially for four major reasons: Poverty, Rape, Incest and to save a woman's life. The government has no business telling women when they can or can't be pregnant, just like they have no business telling us when we can have sex.

b) Taxes: Repugs seem to think that every economic problem can be solved with a tax cut (that always favor the rich overwhelmingly). Look at history and you will find that Repugs in 1929 - 1933 thought that Tax Cuts were the answer to save us from the Great Depression. THEY WERE DEAD WRONG!! Tax Cuts to the wealthiest do more damage to our economy and to the Budget of the government because revenue is taken away from the government and the poor usually get the shaft when the tax burden shifts.

c) Immigration: Repugs think that we have to approach illegal immigration with a policy that imprisons/kills anyone that breaks into our country. When - in fact - there are other avenues to solve this problem. As I have mentioned many times before, Fair Trade policies, and the strict enforcement of those policies is the true key to stop this madness.

d) Church and State: Just look at history and the Bible; It's never good for the State to run a church or vice-versa. It's not good for tax-payed officials to lead in prayer sessions when they are on the payroll, because it breaks down the barrier of Church and State. I'm getting tired of repeating this, but; If you want an example of a State-Run Church, LOOK AT THE "CHRISTIAN CHURCH" IN CHINA!! If you want an examply of any religion running a government; LOOK AT TALIBAN RULED AFGHANISTAN, OR IRAN, OR SAUDI ARABIA, OR ANY COUNTRY IN EUROPE DURING THE DARK AGES!!!

e) Military: It doesn't make sense to send people to war and then cut their benefits. Repugs are all gung-ho about warfare until it comes to providing our soldiers with adequate equipment and compensation after they serve in those wars. Granted, some Repugs have voted in favor of DEMOCRATIC RESOLUTIONS that improve or grant these necessary things to our brave men and women. However, for the most part, you'll find that Repugs more often vote for war and increasing spending on making new weapons than they vote for any bill that will increase pay, grant armor and other necessities.

f) War: Granted, World Wars One and Two, Korea, Vietnam, and the Mexican-American War were started by Democrats. I disagree with all wars, but Democrats have more often than not used them as a last resort. BOOsh, Reagan and Nixon are among those that abused their power. Just look into the following campaigns: Vietnam (which Democrat LBJ had started without true warrant because of bad advice, but you can also find that this man came to regret his lies and fought every day until he left office to end it; furthermore, I say look into this because Nixon made matters worse when he took over), Grenada, The Contras, Iraq, and Panama (with General Noriega that was once an ally to the first Bush).

g) Jobs: Repugs often think that Outsourcing of Manufacturing and other jobs is a good thing, but it's not. Outsourcing is another reason our economy is in trouble, and is a big reason that the average wages are actually on the decline. In addition to that is the Minimum Wage debate and the dumb-***/ill-informed myth that any increase in it will cause chaos for businesses and damage our economy. Repugs have been spewing these lies since FDR first created the Minimum Wage standard and never has it been true.

That's just a short list of where they are wrong...
(end)

Hope that helped.

Democrats help people who need to be helped, instead of those who already have the means to help themselves...
You should be pro-choice because you young teenagers are always getting your girlfriends pregnant.
You should be pro-gay marriage because what the hell do you care if gay people get married.
You should be anti-war, because war is wrong, and not helping you.
You shouldn't support the party that is monitoring your phone calls and internet activity.
There's more...

I don't have to pretend.. that is exactly what you are. Before I would consider trying to explain political process to you .. I would try and give you an idea of humility and humanity. Two things you sorely lack.
