hi. i was surveying at racoon park pa. and at the end of the spillway a snake came out of the water with a fish it had by the tail at first then turned it around and jumped in when it seen me. the snake was around two to three ft. long. dark a thich body but what caught my eye was two small bands of white running across it's neck about three inches down it's neck.what type of water snake is it ? thanks

OK der. I see you live in PA. I missed that part.
There are many types of snakes that will hunt for food in the water.

Northern Water snake. Bad temper if cornered, but totally harmless. I'm from Western Pa. too & I see them all the time fishing . There are no water moccasins in Pa.

Most likely it is the Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon)

Sorry,I just think it is a plain water snake.The only up close water snake was when I was in the lazy river.But I do not know if it was a water snake.

It sounds like a Kingsnake, although rarely seen in the Pennsylvania area. They have two white stripes across the top of their neck area. They are from chocolate brown to black in color.
