For those who haven't seen them, these are parking spots in close proximity to a store, similar to disabled parking. I have even, on occasion, seen them closer to the store than disabled parking. Do you think these spots are appropriate or necessary?

that is absurd.i think a more logical parking space sign would be for "people with asthma."

-people with asthma have no choice of their illness, whereas people who have a kid or many kids made a choice & it becomes their responsibility no matter how annoying/tiring it may be.if we cater to parent with infant(s) for parking spaces, then should we reserve better seats for them on airplanes, movies, the bus and other public transportation? it's appropriate only if it's at a grocery store where food is a necessity for survival but designated parking at the malls for leisure shopping is unnecessary.

now if u had a new born baby that u had to take to the shops but it was raing or crap weather and no under ground parking u are ganna want a parking spot closer to the shop?, so as ur baby doesnt get cold or wet and then it wont get sick. i dont think they should be closer than disabled but they are good for people with a young baby.

Hmmm. Interesting; haven't seen them. I think they are a grand idea for someone with small children who are still in infant seats, etc., say under a year old. But not closer than the handicapped stalls, that's not right. Maybe only in specific places like groceries, pharmacies, doctor's offices, etc. Not at the mall or something.

Sorry "all the same eternity" but they have those parking spaces here in Canada too. While I am not a parent, I think that they are great for parents of babies in strollers and such. I see them constantly lugging their kids in and out and it's so cumbersome. They need all the help they can get, especially since it's usually mothers doing the shopping.

I've seen the maternity ones at local malls. Parent with infant is going a bit far. The maternity ones are great, especially for women who are closer to their due dates.

The Ikea in a nearby town has a small lot to the side front of the store marked for families with small children. As a driver, I actually like it, since it decreases the number of children getting loose in the main parking lot, decreasing my stress levels as a driver. There's no need to cross a main traffic path with small kids to get to the store.

There are at least the normal numbers of ADA accessible spaces (I haven't counted, but it actually seems a bit more than the required minimum) properly sited at the main entrances. And enough are the wider "wheelchair van" spaces that I can get a chair out of the vehicle without worrying I'm not going to be able to get it back in again when we come out of the store. The bulk of the ADA spaces are closer than the bulk of the "family lot" spaces, btw.

I doubt anyone would say anything should someone with a disabled parking permit choose to use the family spots rather than an accessible spot, but I don't recall that the sidewalk area in the family lot is properly ramped.

Awesome. I think it is nice. If you are a parent you would understand. I have 3 kids and it is alot like being handicapped when you are toting a van full of kids.

I think they are terrible, I think you should get a front spot for not having a car load of kids!
