Hi! This is StepCat! Mexicans are called "wetbacks" because they do hard work for very little pay. This causes them to sweat therefore having a "wet back".
For how they feel, I'm sure they don't enjoy being made fun of.

I do not care for these insulting terms. Living in Texas I can only surmise that the term comes for illegal crossing into Texas from the Rio Grande River, and getting "wetbacks" in the process. As to how they would feel about this term I wouldn't know. It may insult some and not others. I worry more about the people calling another group a derogatory name.

my guess is that it has to do with illegal aliens crossing a river to get in to the US and their backs still being wet from the illegal river crossing. I assume it is not a nice name and Mexicans don't like it.

"wet back" is a derogatory term for mexicans. it refers to them swimming across water to get into america. i suppose they feel they same about it as black people would feel about the word "niger" or how middle eastern people feel about being called "rag-head"
