I'm terrible at remembering names, but I try this, when they introduce themselves to me I try to repeat their name, like: they say "Hi my name is Susie!" I say "Hi! Susie, my name is Kathleen" and if I can remember it later when we part I say "It was SO nice to meet you Susie!" I also try to put a personal connection with that person (like if they have the same name as my best friend in high school, and have the same interest in Dolphins), OR I go and write it down (if I have the chance, because I'm a really visual person, I learn better if I see things). Other than that, I usually (and unfortunately) avoid saying the person's name until it can be verified by someone else, like they say "oh you know Susie, she's the one who lives over on elm street" or if I can I say to my friend "I can't for the life of me remember her name, can you tell me?" OR a REAL good one is I'll introduce someone to that person by saying "oh hi! I wanted you to meet my husband, this is Brad" and leave it up to HER to tell HIM her name "Oh hi Brad my name is Susie" usually after I've used one of these "tricks" to learn someone's name I remember it, sometimes not, depends on how much I come into contact with them, and I have a terrible time remembering names of people I've never met (like when my husband tells me stories about all the people he works with). Anyway, I hope some of my tricks can help you remember people's names better!

When you meet someone start off by using their name, like "nice to meet you Joan" and then continue using their name as you talk to them like "Joan, do you think..." etc.

When we meet people we are often quick to hear their name and not make a conscious effort to put it into use when we talk so we go away with a picture of a face and an impression of the person but no name to identify them with.

Write their names down. Or remember an attribute about them to connect to their name. Maybe Pam likes Spam, or Olivia likes Oranges.

When you meet them repeat their name back to them. If someone says "Hi my name is Melanie" and you say "Hi Melanie, great to meet you" That way it reiterates their name in your head. I have to admit, I have a hard time remembering names too.
