Simple answer.
Most residential a/c systems are not designed to run throughout the year. If the outside temperature becomes too low you will have freeze-up.
Another idea is that you need to change your air filters and make sure that you have no ducts blocked.
Also it it possible that you are low on refrigerant. Be sure that you ask the service person where the leak is and why they did not fix it at this time.
Remember , this is a comfort product , if it isn't,t making you comfortable then you need to spend a $150 on making it work for you.

understanding the air conditioner and the weather outside. When the weather outside is cool and u have set the airconditioner about the same or colder it will cause the ac to freeze up. turn it off til the ice is gone. if the weather is starting to get hot outside then u can turn it back on. At night the weather cools down so its best to put ur ac on low speed and low temp. Please read ur manual. Tells u alot that u need to know. Freezing ur ac to much can cause u to loose it.

Aussie was closest.
Either an air flow problem or a slightly low charge.
May be dirty, clogged, or have a bad fan (or capacitor required to start and run the fan). Could be a low charge. Could be an obstruction in the duct or around the condensor coil.

Because they generate cold temperatures. Most A/C units have a heat tape wrapped around the compressor to prevent this but sometimes the heat tape goes bad.
