Let's assume that price is no object. I know that most other mp3 players sell for less, but do they offer the same options and sound quality as the ipod? I'd like to at least have a 1G memory unit, to store a decent amount of songs, etc. Is one particular brand easier to use? Is one difficult? I'd appreciate it if answers would come from those people that have had experience with several types, instead of just one, but hey, I'll take what's most informative.

I say, either will do. It always depends on what you like. You can find very stylish mp3's and ipods. But for battery power, I'd say ipod is better. It's rechargeable, but that doesn't mean the battery can't die down. If the battery dies down, you have to replace it and it costs a lot, without the warranty. Most mp3's run on double A batteries. Which can be a hassle to replace. But for music I'd say either works. But ipods organize your music into play lists. So that may be helpful.

Well here is the thing, iPods are only compatible with iTunes, adn iTunes is only compatible with iPods. Most every other mp3 player is compatabe with most every other music service, and vice versa, and frankly the non iPod brands are easier to use, becasue they operate like a regular USB thumb drive.

This is based on the talk I have heard around the office...

Spend the money, and buy the biggest ipod you can afford. You can never have too much space, but of course you probably want to make sure you have enough hard drive space to sync with the ipod.

I hahve had my Ipod for 5.5 years now and it still works great, after much abuse.
