Does anyone know if i will have to pay rent till the lease is over in May? MY room mate will still be here and shes actively looking for another person but since i signed the lease too while i be penalized and have to pay till she finds someone or till the lease ends if she doesnt? Please help!

You are responsible for the rent until it is over in May, unless you can sublet it to someone else. All the people who signed the lease are 100% responsible for the rent. You are not each responsible for 50%. You are both 100% responsible. You cannot terminate a lease partway through in any legal sense. Even if you sublet it and have another person sign a contract stating that they will pay the rent, you are still ultimately responsible, until the end of your original lease.

Yes, you have to pay if she doesn't find someone else. Once she finds someone else you have to make sure the paperwork (lease) is updated with that persons name as opposed to yours, then you are free and clear. If the name never gets changed and something else happens they will still be looking at you because you didn't let them know you moved.

she can take you to small court claims to mak eyoupay fot the rest of the least.. unless she find someone to take your place.. you are responsible to full fill your lease!!
