It may be that literature can make the communication process work better with people in explaining how things work. Many people are turned off by the enormity of the areas of knowledge, but a book can be less frightening because, done properly, it does not lecture or pontificate or demand. It simply states the truth in a non threatening way.

Tell which truths to which people? I mean if you want to understand truths about the physical world then the natural sciences will tell the truth better than literature. On the other hand if you want to understand the human condition the literature is probably quite a good source.

Ethics. It's the least interfered with by human senses, (Yes I thihnk history has had some human meddling.). Ethical truths are the most simple in design as well.

I will add though that the best method for discovering truth would be through mathematical proof. But all in all I'd say ethical truth has the widest application.

Can it tell the truth better, maybe.

Can it discover the truth better . . no. Literature is a tool for communication of the truth (or fiction) not for the discovery of the truth.

I think it mostly a great tool for getting people to think though! Never underestimate the power to fiction to open minds!
