Acer is a system that was out in the early days of 386/486 pcs. They were sufficient enough. Since Aspire has bought that company, there are more local help desk people. I have worked on Acers, and they are, on the inside, the same as all of the others. Nothing special about them. It is more important that you have quality components on the inside than a good name.
As for me, I have several PCs...
1. A hand-built PC, with an Intel Board, and PIII processor, it runs at 500 MHz, and is a good PC for my security system. Not great for gaming, but since it was my first hand built PC, I am proud of it,
2. Another hand-built PC, With a Biostar board, a 3 G 775 Intel Dual Core Processor and a Gig of Ram. It is lightning fast, and better than any brand machine that I have ever worked on.
3. E-Machines 2.4 GHz PC. It's okay. Nothing glitzy about it. Built like any other HP or Compaq.
4. An HP Laptop. Widescreen, although slower than the EMAchine, a lot better.
5. Another hand built machine with an AMD processor. Nothing fancy, built it for about 350 bucks. Good enough for my girlfriend's son and his online gaming.
6. An Apple Powerbook G4. The mose capable machine I have ever seen. It's my first apple, and I am thoroughly impressed with it. Apple beats windows hands down.

Acer is a reputable brand name. The only thing brand names give you is peace of mind that if it's defective, they will stand behind their product. You should compare warranty's before you buy.
The mark of a good computer, however, isn't what brand name is on the outside, what's inside is what matters.

It's not the name or brand of computer that makes it good, it's what you put into it like memory, graphics, and sound cards, ect.
