OK, here is where I stand: I do believe the terrorist threat is real, unfortunately very real, and I am not a proponent of government conspiracy (probable but unlikely), but don’t you think that uncovering the recent terrorist threat came at a very convenient time for Bush/Blair administrations?

What puzzled me most was when I talked to a friend of mine who flew from Moscow around 2 months ago that when she was leaving from a Moscow airport there already was a ban on all liquids/lotions/gels in carry-on. Not yesterday, not last week, but 2 months ago! In Moscow! And trust me on this one - Russia is not the most advanced country in the matters of airport security. So, how did it happen that even the Russian bears had more info on what was going on the day before yesterday than what came as a surprise to most of us yesterday?

Or was it because it was a known (thought through unofficial channels) fact for the airport security but was kept as an ace for the administrations to use when they felt it was the most advantageous?

And I repeat, this comes from a very skeptical person who does not give it to the conspiracy theories easily…

What do you think? Only serious answers from BOTH sides, please.

The raids in London came right when both Blair and Bush were getting bashed with world opinion over the killing of Lebanese civilians and the destruction of the Lebanese infrastructure.

Officials in London and agents in Pakistan had been investigating them for weeks, perhaps months. Bush retreats for R&R to his home in Texas. Blair sails away to Bermuda on his luxury yahct.

And then surprise, surprise, major terrorist alarm. Code red, security heightened. Bush and Homeland Security protecting us again. Big speech. Polls go up, he has saved the western world again. Public has an attention span no bigger than Bush's IQ any way.

How is that neither Blair, Bush or their principal advisors had no knowledge of that major investigation? Sounds snaky to me!

Do you think they'll find those LMDs (liquids of mass distruction)?
Just curious.

When they found the tickets for some of them to do the trial run, was when they decided to move in and make it public. Russia has had to deal with terrorist for a long time. How long have they had their ban? You only know that it was in place 2 months ago, but it actually may have been in place much longer than 2 months. You can believe in the conspiracy theories all you want. Terrorist had this same scenario planned in 1995 so I guess they needed a little more prodding to make it real. Russia also couldn't care less if their people whined about freedoms or rights. The people over there know better to keep their mouths shut. Would you prefer the US and Great Britain to start with Russia's level of security? I think not.

Russia lives under a serious terrorist threat from Islamics as we do. They are closer to it and Islamic extremist are fighting Russia for a state (Chechnia)sp. So any actions concerning them in flight does not suprise me.

I'm sure the anti Bush crowd will love to make a conspiracy out of this; but lets be serious for a minute...if they wanted political gain they'd have brought it out 5 days before the election in November - not now. By all accounts of what I read this group was infiltrated and was in the act of a "dry run." I think the group dictated when they got picked up - not Bush or Blair.

I have an inate distrust of most politicians, so I would not be surprised at anything they pull, from either party. I don't want to believe that this could be the case, but it could be. The truth is, we'll probably never know the whole truth. There will be plenty of folks who will jump on the wagon and be happy to scream that it's a huge conspiracy by the evil Bush administration, but their cries are only speculation, and they will just further remove themselves from credibility by doing so.

Here's my useless observation: 9-11 happened right after the US release of the Pearl Harbor movie. This thing happened at the release of the 9-11 movie.

The Russians have huge internal problems with Moslems and Chechens. This may have been something they thought was just their problem.

The timing couldn't have been planned because they had just got their orders to proceed with the plan and had tickets for August 16th.
