I have been told before by several people that they say what whatever you weighed when you were born is around the weight of the baby you will have. This is not always true as I had one 9 pound baby and one 6 pound baby. But the average is between 6-9 pounds.

Nope. Doctors will try, they can guestimate, but even the ultrasound can't really give you a good idea. Doctors will often tell women that they can't possibly birth their baby vaginally because it is ___ lbs, or just plain tell them that a c-section or induction will be necessary because their baby will just be too big. However there is often a huge discrepancy in actual weight and often these babies are much smaller or bigger than estimated and induction or c-section wasn't really necessary.
Rest assured that a baby is made to fit through that specific womans pelvis. It is really rare that there is an actual medical reason for the baby to be too big to birth naturally. In fact, some doctors think a big baby is easier to birth because the head helps to open the pelvis easier and the body moves down easier. Here: http://www.doula4birth.com/ofp.htm are some tips for getting even a big baby into the best possible position for an easier labor.
Probably more info than you wanted, but I tend to panic when I thin that a woman might be worried that her baby is "too big"! That may not be your case, but thought I'd throw in a few FYI's.

It depends....I had a daughter born at 42 weeks and she weighed 8lbs 9 oz..... I had three other children( with a different father) born at various weeks and they were all larger
#2 40 weeks - 9lbs 3 oz
#3 39 weeks- 9lbs 12 oz
#4 37 weeks- 8lbs 11 oz
So it depends on the biological make up of the child wether or not it will be large or small

41 weeks is when the baby is ready to get out.
So is the same as asking about the usual weight at birth.
Normal is between 6 and 8 pounds.
