Mint! a lovely plant that soon becomes one of the most invasive pests you can have. It is a very hardy annual with a well developed root system. In other words it spreads like wild fire. Dig it out. Dig down at least 8 inches and try to get ALL the roots. Dig a foot around the area where it has been growing but hasnt appeared yet either. If you dont get it all.....it reappears like a bad penny. Other than that you can poison it but you also will poison the ground and may not be able to get anything to grow there for a while. In the future plant it in areas you dont care about or in pots.

Dig up what you want and put it in a pot. Break out the Round-Up, because Mint is great at taking over! If you want your mint in the ground, get a pickle bucket with the bottom cut out. Bury the bucket up to 1" from the rim and plant your mint in there. The bucket will keep it from spreading and allow you to have it in your garden. Good Luck! Show No Mercy! lol

DO NOT use Round Up unless you want to kill everything in the surrounding area for the next few years!!

Mint is highly invasive, and unless you are patient enough to remove all of the root system, it will keep coming back. If it is in a contained area, try using thin metal flashing as a border to contain it until you can remove the root system and be sure. Make sure you extend the flashing at least 6-8" below the dirt. Good luck!

If it is a flavor you like, dig up the stuff you want to get rid of and dry it. You can use it for tea.

The rest of the mint needs to be contained. Plant what you want in pots and keep it trimmed. Don't allow the trimmings to lay on the wet ground, as they may take root like creeping charlie!

If you want to get rid of it completely, then dig or pull it all up. "Round Up" and related chemicals will kill stuff you want, as well as the mint!
