Cynical? Do you mean critical. Because gross misspellings and bad grammar indicate a lack of education and a lack of attention to detail. Follow me for a minute here - we are going out into left field.

Two women are dressed in the same clothing. One woman is wearing a pressed red shirt, and clean blue jean, white sandals.

The other woman is wearing the same clothing, but her shirt is wrinkled and there is peanut butter on the lapel. Her jeans are wrinkled and stained and her toes, showing in her white sandals are dirty.

Which woman has higher self-esteem and self-respect. The one with the attention to detail! Both women may be lovely people but the one that is well dressed cares about herself and the way she appears to the world. It doesn't make her better than the rumpled dresser, but it does indicate a certain self-esteem, and eye for detail.

Same thing with spelling, it is representative, not only of your intelligence, but also your sense of self. Don't strive for mediocrity--shoot for excellence.

What is your point? And the word you are looking for is critical, not cynical.

Proper spelling, grammar and other English constructions make you sound intelligent, even if your message is stupid. A message from Stephen Hawking or Albert Einstein would be discounted if it was full of mistakes and IM shortcuts - that is just laziness.

OJam - you may have used spell check, but it didn't catch the word to when you meant too. Nice try, though.

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say with this. If you're trying to say that spelling doesn't matter, I would say communication always matters. History is full of small mistakes in communications that have led to outright disasters, such as the sinking of a multimillion dollar oil drilling platform in 1995. Someone simply forgotten to enter communication about a missing part in the maintenance log.

*raises eyebrow* Do you not see all the idiots who type 'lyk omfg DUDE wazup wyf U?!!!ONE111!'? Trust me, most of them are American...

I'm not cynical... I'm just an English major. *snorts* And look, even I'm horridly lax in what I type out. My professors would have my ***.

'Why are so many Americans here on the net....etc.' is the correct grammar for your question... grammar is important too, y'know. :)

Personally, I think most of the bad spelling and grammar floating around here IS American. So my guess is that you got bitten by someone...? Besides, it can't be too hard... they GIVE you spell check up there.

Because proper English and proper spelling is a lost art IN the United States.. Our schools do not teach it anymore in favor of sex education or some other idiotic course

In today's age, having to read bad spelling is like seeing that someone has been in a perfectly functional bathroom and disaffected on the floor.

Americans are on the way to create a national nation. They are trying to create a language of their own out of English. They are sort of idiots. Most of them use than and then interchangeably. Likewise: Their and There.

Country of origin has nothing to do with it. The English language is the big thing. Not all Americans are white... Or have you not notice that.

Well there is a spell checker here, every time you post you should use it. If we can't read what you say, why should we answer?
