It's a datura, for sure. Brugmansia is closely related, but it's seed pods look more like a bean or a slender pepper. As previously noted, all plant parts are toxic, and people have been known to try to get high off them, with very bad results. But the flowers are beautiful and a real pleasure in the garden in the evening.

Seeds are difficult to identify at best. Your best bet is to identify the flower/shrub the seed came from.

Note as many of the plant's characteristics as you can: size of plant (height, etc.), type and size of leaves, leaf placement, color of flower, size of flower, what zone you are in, blooming time, etc. Once you have all that information, you can look up the plant by the flower and leaf definition.

Perhaps your friend knows what her plant is?

Are you sure it is a seed, and not a plant gall?

A moonflower will stand up like a tomato plant when it's short. I would say it's a moonflower.
The seed she gave you was a seed pod and the seeds are inside. If it was still green the seeds may not be mature,
